(Our Roots)
Urban Media One
began as The Fuller Park Advisory
Council & Community Development Corporation that was a non-profit
organization founded by a group of community activists in May 1995.
To deal with Community Development and Training for it's Residents.
After a year of hard work the Fuller Park Community was designated
Enterprise Community status. In late 1996 The Fuller Park Advisory
Council & Community Development Corporation was dissolved to return
in late Summer 1999 as The Fuller Park Advisory Council&Community
Media Consortium to explore the possibilities of training at risk
inner city Chicago youth in Radio Broadcasting and the Motion
Picture industry.
In August 2000 The Fuller Park Advisory Council & Community Media
Consortium filed an application with the FCC (Federal Communications
Commission) for licensing of an (LPFM) Low Power FM station Under
the call letters WJPC FM. In late 2002 the application was denied
due to our geographical area, this means no Low Power FM (LPFM) for
urban cites such as Chicago, New York, and Los Angelis cites that
need these Community Based Radio Station the most. Since that time
the organization has become full time advocates for this matter and
has renamed it’s self
Urban Media One
in 2006.
At the heart of Chicago's urban, South and
West Side, are many Communities with a vibrant character and a
strong spirit. Many Communities weathered a rough road through the
20th Century of declining economic conditions, abrupt demographic
changes, and deteriorating living circumstances, and today most
Residents remains in some of Chicago's poorest and under served
Communities.
We'll serve as a Community resource center for
information, because as we know Information is power.
